Town Manager's Weekly Report (9/5/25)

Town Manager Report for the week ending September 5, 2025

In this week’s report we are going to highlight some of the incredible programs and events that are taking place this month at our Parks and Recreation Department and at our Human Services Resource and Senior Center:

September is Senior Center Month where they focus on “Powering Possibilities: Flip the Script.” They are challenging the outdated perceptions of our aging and senior centers. They are celebrating the dynamic role that centers play in fostering creativity, connection, purpose, and resilience in later life. At our Senior Center older adults thrive through social connection to combat loneliness and isolation; enjoy in health and wellness programs that promote vitality; are provided economic security resources that offer stability; and the center creates cultural engagement that brings joy and purpose.

The Surgeon General has identified loneliness as a national epidemic, but Senior Centers have long been the antidote where people gather, support one another, and build community. On September 3 AAA gave a great presentation on “The RI Older and Wiser Driver”. On September 9 there will be a Watercolor Class with Sylvia. And on September 10 the Museum on the Road is coming for a 1-hour presentation on its Work and Culture Center Museum. Please check out the September newsletter for more information on programs, the meal site, SNAP benefits, and case management services for Medicare, estate planning, emergency housing, energy assistance, and other needs.

At the Parks and Recreation department they are having their annual Community Yard Sale on Saturday September 13 (rain date-14th) at the Guy Lefebvre Community Center 1277 Main St. There are 3 options on how you can participate. Please check out the Parks and Recreation website for more information.

Parks and Recreation is also having its Halloween Candy Collection from September 15-October 13 from 830-430 at the Parks and Recreation Building on 1277 Main St. Please help support this year’s Monster Mash Bash on October 17, 2025 in providing candy to over 3000 children with your donation of individually wrapped and sealed goodies.

Also happening are trips to Salem on September 21, the Newport Playhouse and Cabaret on September 28, and New York City on November 29 to see the Rockettes.

On Thursday September 4 we had a Municipal Fire Commission meeting in preparation on presenting an update to the Town Council on Tuesday.
