Town Manager Report for the week ending May 29, 2026
On Tuesday I met with the Parks Director Sevegny and DC Gebo regarding some issues over the weekend at Briar point Beach and the boat ramp on Tiogue Ave with jet skis. We have since posted at both ramps the need to register your personal watercraft per the Town code with Parks and Recreation. It is $20 for the year for residents and $40 for the year for nonresidents. Registration is during normal business hours.
On Thursday we had one of our monthly Council meetings in which we recognized Troop 11 of Coventry with the following: The Upper Dam Pond Conservation Association (UDPCA) partnered on April 25, 2026 with Troop 11 from Coventry, RI for an Earth Day clean-up on Knotty Oak Rd. There were 19 scouts and 11 adults who helped out from Troop 11. The ages of the scouts ranged from 11-16 years old. Their ranks also ranged from Scout (the first rank earned) to Life Scout (the last rank earned before Eagle Scout). All of these scouts used the service hours earned from the Earth Day cleanup for Conservation Service Hours towards their rank advancement. Troop 11 prides itself in helping out and giving back to the community and is always excited to help out the UDPCA. Congratulations to Troop 11 and Tom Pendergast from the UDPCA for their dedication.
We also had our last Municipal Fire Commission meeting on Thursday to provide the community with a 30-page PP presentation summarizing all of the documentation the Commission obtained, a financial summary of what a Municipal Fire Department would cost, and most importantly feedback from approximately a dozen residents, board chairs, and fire chiefs as to what they want to see. It was very productive. Special thanks to Jillian and Director Civetti for all of their hard work putting this together. Next step is that all of last night’s information will go to the Town Council for them to decide the next steps of a possible Municipal Fire Department.
