Town Manager Report for the week ending May 15, 2026
On Tuesday we had our monthly board meeting of the RI League of Cities and Towns in which we discussed pending legislation that the League is highly involved in supporting some legislation while against other legislation based on how it impacts the League members as a whole. There was also a presentation from DEM Police Chief Dean Hoxie regarding abandoned and/or derelict boats on bodies of water a municipality owns and how we can recover funds if we have to remove it, tow it, and destroy it.
Coventry Parks and Recreation also received a $2500 grant from the RI League for the upcoming FIFA World Cup. We will be utilizing those funds at our Summer Festival on June 20 at Coventry High School to put on an interactive soccer demonstration with professional athletes.
Speaking of June 20 (rain date June 21) our 250th Parade starts at 300pm at Paine Field, travels down South Main St, and ends at Ocean State Job Lot. We are inviting local businesses and community groups to be part of the parade. Please reach out to kfrenze@coventryri.gov for details.
On June 20 from 400pm-930pm our 4th Annual Summer Festival will take place at Coventry High School with Food Trucks and a Kids Zone. There will be live music from 500-900pm by Red Light Party Rock Band and a firework display from 900-930pm. A huge thank you to our sponsors Centreville Bank, Warwick Tree, Westerly Community Credit Union, Beacon Bank and Trust, Navigant Credit Union, Pool and Patio Center, and Renewal by Anderson. Come and enjoy the fun!!
On Tuesday we had one of our regular Council meetings where Chief Potvin and Chief Cady recognized firefighters and dispatch from all of the Fire Districts for saving the life of a 46-year-old woman who went into cardiac arrest at home. After a quick response from her parents calling dispatch and following instructions on starting CPR the responding firefighters utilized their training and experience to save her life. They all received a standing ovation in Council Chambers. Thank you for your service!!
On Wednesday we met with Fuss, Brito, and KCWA for our monthly update call on the high school sewer project. Things are on schedule with a couple of minor changes in the plan. We still hope to be completed by beginning of July and paving in September.
Chief Witt, Captain Clarke, and I attended the 30th Cranston Police Memorial Ceremony for Police Week at City Hall to remember those officers who made the ultimate sacrifice.
