Town Manager's Weekly Report (2/6/26)

Town Manager Report for the week ending February 6, 2026

The Town held its Special Election for Districts 4 and 5 at the Coventry Senior Resource Center and Mapleroot Church on Tuesday February 3. Congratulations to Councilmember Elect Mia Iannotti in District 4 and Councilmember Elect Greg Mars in District 5. The vote will be certified on February 12 by the Board of Canvassers and they will be officially sworn in at a date to be determined.

The Parks and Recreation Department is inviting residents and non-residents to join them on February 27 at 430 (bus leaves) when they visit the TD Garden in Boston to watch the Celtics in action against the Nets. Tickets are $195 for residents and $205 for non-residents. The first 15 kids to register age 7-14, accompanied by an adult, will get to have the experience of a lifetime to go out on the court and stand with a Celtic player during the National Anthem. Call the Community Center for more information 822-9107.

I met with Director Robillard on Wednesday to finalize all of the furniture, fixtures, and equipment that we will be ordering to outfit the Community Learning Center. We also discussed the plans for the area that Project Friends will have along with all of the children’s library programs being hosted in the new library portion.

On Thursday I met with staff, Solicitor Igliozzi, and Fuss and O’Neill to discuss a multitude of projects currently on the radar on Hopkins Hill Rd, Centre of NE Blvd, and New London Turnpike. With the high demand for sewer access in these areas Town staff is doing their due diligence to ensure that all of the projects that are given permission to move forward will not put an undue burden on the system and we have the capacity to handle what they will be adding to our flow. We are taking a very conservative approach on how we move forward so their will be no adverse impacts to the Town as these projects move forward over the next several years.

Today we met with the Building Official and his team along with the Fire Marshall and our architects, RGB, over at the Annex project. As we get closer to completion there are several things on the checklist that still need to be completed along with a punch list of smaller items like painting and molding that need to be addressed. We have pushed back the opening to the end of March, early April to make sure once we open we are 100% operational.

We are expecting another snow storm tonight into tomorrow morning, please adhere to the posted parking ban hours from midnight tonight to midnight tomorrow night so we can sand/salt and plow the roads effectively. Thanks for your cooperation.
