Open Position --- Beach Custodian

JOB: Beach Custodian
HOURS: July 1-September 2. Weekdays (excluding holidays) 5-7pm; Weekends & Holidays 8:30-10:30am and 5-7pm. (Partial shifts available)
AVAILABLE POSITIONS: Up to 2
PAY: $15/hr. No benefits.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Routine manual work in the cleaning and upkeep of Briar Point Beach and beach facilities.
Work is performed under general supervision of the Parks and Recreation Administrative staff and is under the direct supervision of the Parks Foreman.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Keeps grounds clean of trash.
  • Clean beach bathrooms daily.
  • Use of cleaning equipment.
  • Sweeps outside walkways.
  • Report beach end issues such as broken Town property.
  • Opens and locks beach gates.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of cleaning fluids and chemicals.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks at hand.
  • Ability to perform manual labor.
  • Ability to perform work under limited supervision.
  • Ability to work alone.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule.
  • Skill in using simple hand tools.
  • Ability to work weekends and holidays.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High School graduation or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. One (1) year
custodial experience. (A comparable amount of training, education or experience can be substituted for the minimum qualifications. Willing to train the right person.)


LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS:
Valid Rhode Island Driver’s License, required
Moderate (15 to 44 pounds) lifting and carrying.
Acceptable vision {with or without correction}.
Walking, standing, kneeling, bending, stooping.


ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
Works inside with cleaning chemicals.
Work periods on beach which includes walking in sand and various weather events and conditions (sunny days, rain days etc.)
