Town Manager Report for the week ending November 6, 2026
The reconstruction and paving of Reservoir Ave and the Coventry High School Access Road will continue and last 2-3 more weeks. We are hoping it is completed sooner, but have built into the schedule some some weather days, like today, to keep expectations on track. Work is being dome from 700 am to 300 pm Monday through Friday and there will be a detour in place with police detail officers. When work is being done on the access road school buses and those who drop off/drive themselves will need to use the Clubhouse Rd entrance in the rear. Please use caution while paving operations are ongoing because the pavement will be rough and have loose gravel and dust as part of the construction. Please drive slowly and give the construction vehicles and personnel plenty of room to operate in a safe manner.
Parks and Recreation is sponsoring a trip on Saturday December 12 to Trinity Rep for a production of A Christmas Carol. Tickets are $90 for residents and $95 for nonresidents. Please contact Parks and Recreation for more information.
On Tuesday we had our elections here in Coventry and I want to congratulate our new District 2 Councilmember Britney Boyer who will be sworn in on Tuesday November 10 to fill the vacant seat caused by former Councilmember Capaldiās resignation in August. The results of the election will be certified by the Board of Elections on November 24 and all will be sworn in January. Other votes of interest were the 2 referendum questions: #6 on the ballot was to reduce the percentage of the real estate conveyance tax that the Land Trust receives from 50 % to 25%-that failed. #7 on the ballot was a nonbinding question whether to have the Town pursue a Municipal Fire Department. That question passed. As a result, the next step in the process will be to go to the General Assembly supported by our local delegation to have state enabling legislation passed for the creation of the Coventry Fire Department. If that legislation is passed it will then go back to the voters in late spring, early summer for a binding vote on the creation of a municipal fire department. If that referendum passes the goal is to have all 4 districts combined by July 1 2028 at the earliest. The consolidation will include everything including assets, liabilities, staff, equipment, buildings, and rescues/trucks. It also means taxpayers will receive one tax bill instead of two as they will be combined under the Town of Coventry. As the process continues if there are questions and/or concerns please submit them to your Councilperson and/or me and we will try to answer them the best we can. It will be an involved process with many moving parts, but it will be done in the best interest of public safety for all residents of Coventry.
