Town Manager's Weekly Report (10/9/26)

Town Manager Report for the week ending October 9, 2026

The finished paving as part of the Coventry High School Sewer Connection project has begun with the milling of Tiogue Ave this week. The paving of Tiogue Ave will take place next week at night from 900pm to 500am.

The reconstruction and paving of Reservoir Road and the Coventry High School Access Road will be starting the week of October 12th and conclude the week of November 2nd. Work will be done from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be a detour in place during paving operations.  When work is being done of the high school access road school busses and those coming and going from the school will need to use the Clubhouse Road entrance. Please use caution while paving operations are ongoing.  Note that the pavement will be rough and have loose gravel after the pavement has been milled. Pease drive slowly and give construction vehicles and personnel plenty of room.

Tomorrow morning at 930 the Town will be celebrating the official opening of the newly renovated Quidnick Park at 191 MacArthur Blvd. The new space includes a renovated basketball court, a brand-new playground for kids of all ages, and space to gather. It was paid for by funds from a Community Development Block grant of $495k. Please join us to cut the ribbon, engage with your fellow community remembers, and enjoy some light refreshments.

This week staff conducted interviews for the Tax Collector position that is opening up in a couple of months with the retirement of our current Collector Monique Houle in December. We will have our selection made next week and are planning for a seamless transition into 2027.

The Planning Commission met on Wednesday night and made recommendations to the Town Council on which capital projects they want prioritized as we begin to enter the application and public hearing process for CDBG funds this year. Coventry Housing has also submitted a separate application to address their priority during their open rolling enrollment.

Director Civetti and I met with School Superintendent and Business Manager to review our FY 26 surpluses and to begin working on our 5-year budget projections which are due in December. Both the Town and the School continue to fund the deficit reduction plan put in place by the Auditor General earlier this year. We will continue to work together to find areas of savings while providing our students the best learning environment possible.
