Job Opportunity: IT Technician – Town of Coventry
The Town of Coventry is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented IT Technician to join our technology team. This role is ideal for a versatile technical professional who enjoys a mix of hands-on infrastructure management, proactive system administration, and user support.
Reporting directly to the IT Director, the IT Technician will play a vital role in maintaining the integrity, availability and security of the Town’s digital infrastructure while ensuring our staff has the tools they need to serve the community effectively.
Key Responsibilities
- Network & Infrastructure: Assist in the maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of the Town’s wired and wireless networks. Monitor connectivity and hardware performance across multiple municipal sites.
- System Administration: Manage and maintain a Windows Active Directory environment, including user account lifecycle management, Group Policy Objects (GPOs), and permissions.
- Website Management: Perform regular updates, content management, and basic troubleshooting for the Town’s official website to ensure accessibility and accuracy for residents.
- Technical Support: Serve as the primary point of contact for help desk requests. Resolve hardware, software, and peripheral issues for Town employees with a focus on efficiency and professional communication.
- Security & Compliance: Assist the IT Director in implementing security protocols and ensuring all systems adhere to best practices for data protection.
Qualifications & Skills
- Education/Experience: An Associate’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field; or 2+ years of professional experience in a technical support or junior sysadmin role.
- Technical Proficiency:
- Strong understanding of TCP/IP networking, VLANs, and hardware (switches, firewalls, and APs).
- Hands-on experience managing Windows Server environments and Active Directory.
- Familiarity with web content management systems (CMS).
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 administration and troubleshooting.
- Soft Skills:
- Exceptional problem-solving abilities and a "security-first" mindset.
- Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical staff clearly and patiently.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tickets and long-term projects simultaneously.
