Town Manager's Weekly Report (5/1/26)

Town Manager Report for the week ending May 1, 2026

As part of the Town’s 250th Semiquincentennial Celebration the Coventry Library is sponsoring an Art Show on May 19 from 530-730pm. It is called “Historical Coventry a Celebration in Art”. It is a student art contest for all Coventry students K-12 to submit/drop off to the Library from April 20-May 3. Students may submit paintings, drawings, sculpture, and other media forms of art to be judged by a panel. Prizes will be given at a community reception to be held at the Library. The Library has partnered with the Paine House, the General Nathanael Greene Homestead, the Coventry Historic Preservation Commission, and the School Department on this special event. The Coventry Historic Preservation Commission will also have photos on display of children from the 1800’s.

Also, as part of the 250th Celebration the “Treasurers from the Archives” program that was originally scheduled for February 24 that was cancelled due to the blizzard has been rescheduled for May 12 from 1-3pm in the Library. This program will show you how to transcribe 18th and 19th century documents from Coventry’s archives. This is for all history buffs to research hidden gems and help preserve for generations to come.

On Tuesday we had our last Public Budget Hearing before final approval on Wednesday May 6. There was one change in which we added $6716 to the Fire Dispatch line that was incorrectly underfunded. Also, during that meeting we reappointed members to the Library Board and approved a new bench for Mr. Graichen at the causeway for all of his advocacy and donations for Teaching Children to Fish.

On Wednesday the Town, the School SRP, the Police Union, and Council 94 met with our Investment/Pension Advisors, Focus Partners, for a quarterly update on the respective portfolios. All are well balanced to handle these tumultuous financial times and continue to perform well in securing our employees future benefits.

On Wednesday night the Redevelopment Commission met and approved a resolution forwarding the Redevelopment Plan written by GZA to the Council for approval. We want to thank the Commission for all of their dedication and professionalism.

Also, on Wednesday the Planning Commission met to approve several projects on their agenda and most importantly approved the new Comprehensive Plan which will now be sent over to the Council for a Public Hearing and adoption in May. This will be the first fully updated plan in over 25 years. We thank the public for all of their input over the last couple of years to get it to this point.
