Town Manager's Weekly Report (10/31/25)

Town Manager Report for the week ending October 31, 2025

On Monday Council Leadership-President Verducci and Vice President Brown met with the leadership team of the Redevelopment Agency- Chairman Brennan and Vice Chairman Schuler along with representatives of GZA to discuss the establishment of the boundaries of Johnson’s Pond and the process that constitutes the redevelopment plan itself. It was very informative and has set the foundation for future joint workshops and monthly updates from RDA to the Council.

Asst. Town Manager Broadbent attended the meeting of the RI House Special Commission to study and provide findings and potential solutions to address the flooding of the Pawtuxet River.  The Commission is charged with recommending potential infrastructure and policy solutions to minimize flood impacts and promote resilience.  The Commission would like to hear from residents and business owners impacted by flooding from the Pawtuxet River at their November 24, 2025 meeting.  The Commission meets at 3:30 p.m. in Room 135 at the State House.  Comments may also be emailed to tlombardi@rhodeislandlegislature.gov.  Rep. Earl Reed, representing parts of Coventry, West Warwick, and Warwick is the Chair of the Commission.

On Tuesday we had a Council meeting to discuss various ongoing litigation items in Executive Session including Johnson’s Pond and the Centre of New England. There will be a Special Council meeting scheduled for November 4, 2025 at 600 to vote on the items that were continued including all licenses. At that meeting after the agenda business is concluded the Council will interview and ask questions of the 4 candidates for appointment in District 4 and the 2 candidates for appointment in District 5. At the conclusion of that process one representative for each district will be appointed until the Special Election which is on February 3.

************With the current government shutdown and the impending loss of SNAP Benefits to over 3000 of our residents beginning on Saturday the Town is asking for everyone that has the means to donate to our local Food Bank at 191 MacArthur Blvd-CCAP Building or at the Coventry Resource and Senior Center 50 Wood St. Items that are most urgently needed include: Canned soup, Canned pasta, Tomato products, Snacks-crackers, granola bars, breakfast bars, 100% bottled juice or juice boxes, and cereal. These will help our families facing tough times. Thanks for your continued support to meet these needs.
