Town Manager Report for the week ending September 19, 2025
On Monday we had our quarterly pension meeting with our investment contractor Focus Partners. There are three pensions they manage for the Town-Council 94, Police I.B.P.O., and the School Related Personnel (SRP). They also manage our Waterman Fiske Trust Fund. We had a good quarter and continue to increase our assets to cover our pension liability.
We also had a work session of the Coventry Municipal Fire Commission in which we worked on the draft of the final report that will be made to the Town council. We reviewed the dozens of attachments submitted over the past 6 months with the intention of consolidating all of the information into a uniform cohesive document. We will have one more meeting in October to finalize the report for the Council.
On Tuesday we had our first Coventry Sewer Project joint meeting with our contractors Fuss and O’Neill the engineers, CB Brito the construction team, and our partner KCWA. We discussed the time frame on starting the project and the road closure and detour plan around the high school. We agreed to meet monthly to keep our communication lines open and provide updates to the community/neighbors as needed.
We also had our monthly call with the Pandemic Recovery Office to discuss the Annex Learning Center project. We focused on several deliverables that are owed to them as we begin to get closer to our completed construction. We are hoping to have everything done by the end of the year with the last part being the furniture and equipment. We were able to secure several desks, file cabinets, and cubicles from our insurer the R.I. Interlocal Trust as they were moving to a new headquarters. We will also be using some older furniture we had at the Annex already and looking for any donations of bookcases to be used in the new library space.
On Thursday I swore in a new police officer, Josh Kennedy, who recently retired from the West Warwick Police Department. We are excited to bring over a well-educated and skilled officer who retired as a Detective Lt. and brings with him supervisory and operational experience to our department. We wish the best.
