Town Manager Report for the week ending June 20, 2025
On Friday June 13 Cox Communication employees volunteered their services cleaning up, weeding, and organizing our Community Garden over at the Annex. We want to thank them for their efforts, it looks great and we look forward to a bountiful harvest in the summer and fall.
On Tuesday June 17 we had our official ground breaking for our Coventry Community Learning Center at the Town Hall Annex. The Governor, Council, and Rep. Read were there for the festive occasion. This $4.5m learning center will be the cornerstone of this community for years to come with all of the services it will provide from after school education and GED programs, to health monitoring including tele-visits and mental health counseling, and workforce development to support those looking to start careers in a variety of areas. We also took a tour of the facility and as the largest learning center being renovated in RI the Governor and media were very impressed.
On June 18 we had our Annual Pride Flag Raising sponsored by Council President Hillary Lima and School Committee member Cody Reidl. It was finally a nice day to raise the flag and enjoy some cupcakes. Thanks Cody.
On June 18 I also attended the R.I. Police Accreditation Commission ceremony in Cumberland to present the Coventry Police Department their re-accreditation award for their work in meeting the criteria to be an accredited police agency. I want to thank Chief Heise, Major Skorski, Captain Witt, Captain Gebo, and Captain DeSisto for their support and leadership, but most importantly Lt. DeMolles, our Accreditation Manager, for all of his hard work in getting us to the finish line. I know the amount of work it takes to become accredited along with the continued efforts to remain a professional organization that maintains the highest standards. Great job!!
On Thursday June 19 all Town Offices were closed to celebrate the Juneteenth holiday. Sorry for any inconvenience also, the transfer station will be open on Saturday from 0730 to 1200 noon for those wishing to stop by.
On Saturday June 21 from 400-930 we will be celebrating our 3rd Annual Summer Festival at the Coventry High School. Please bring your blanket and chair and hang out listening to live music, eating lots of good food from out truck vendors, visiting our kids’ zone, stopping by our 30+ vendors, and enjoying the fireworks.
