Mark your calendar for a day-long celebration of Nathanael and Catherine Littlefield Greene’s 250th wedding anniversary on Saturday, July 20th from 10 am to 5 pm. Join in the fun as historic traditions are reenacted. Plan to spend the day, bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the beautiful grounds, take a guided tour of the homestead, visit with dozens of reenactors from the “village” as they come together for the biggest civilian reenactment event this season! 10:30 Ticketed Hairdressing Event in the Barn
11:00 Race for brown betty - Anyone 12 years old and older is invited to join in as the groom’s party race to be the first to claim the jug, the brown betty, you could win the prize!
12:00 pm The Bride dresses for the Ceremony - Facebook Live broadcast from inside Spell Hall. We won’t all fit in her bedchamber, but we can watch as the Bride continues her preparations for the big event!
1:00 Ceremony - Take your place for an historic wedding ceremony!
Following the ceremony the Bride and Groom will exchange gifts. Members of the community will also present the newlyweds with gifts useful in their new role as husband and wife.
2:00 Dance and make merry 18th century style in a simple to follow dance, try your hand at historic games for all ages.
3:00 Excitement continues as the Bride is abducted and the Groom’s best men are dispatched to rescue her! Are you curious? Plan to stay all day and learn the history of this quirky tradition.
