Construction Notice: Tiogue Lake Dam Gate

Construction will begin on August 24 to replace the Tiogue Lake water level control gate, the gear mechanism used to open and close it, and to repair a corrugated metal pipe that conveys water under Tiogue Ave. Residents in the area may hear the pounding of wooden piles into the ground as part of the early phase of construction.  While traffic on Tiogue Ave will not be impacted, residents are asked to use caution when driving through the area, as construction vehicles may occasionally need to cross the road.

The dam and the gate that create Tiogue Lake date back to the late 1800’s.  The wooden gate has broken and needed to be replaced on a number of occasions.  In October 2025, the gate became jammed in the open position.  A steel plate is being used temporarily to keep to pond full for the summer.

The construction project will replace the gate with a modern metal gate and control mechanism, remove the gatehouse, and slip line the corrugated pipes that run under Tiogue Ave.  Construction is expected to be completed in December.
